A man suspected of raping a 9-year-old girl in Dover last year was arrested by local officials in Pasadena, Texas Sunday. Frank Smith is now awaiting extradition to Delaware.
Dover Police worked with colleagues in Pasadena, Texas to arrest on Sunday a former Dover resident wanted for the alleged rape of a child that took place a year ago.
Frank E Smith Jr., a 52-year-old white male, was arrested by Pasadena authorities on Sunday for the rape that took place approximately one year ago within the Dover East Mobile Home Park, Dover Police Lt. Daniel McKeown said Monday.
On Nov. 13, 2012, the Dover Police Criminal Investigations Unit began investigating a complaint of child rape that occurred at 1061 S. Little Creek Road, McKeown said. That investigation revealed that a 9-ear-old girl was sexually assaulted by Smith, who was a neighbor and family friend of the victim's family, at his home.
Smith forced girl to have intercourse with him and then threatened her not to say anything, McKeown said. Smith then left the area, moving to Pasadena, he said.
Warrants were then obtained for Smith, who had moved to 3807 Duquewsne Road, McKeown said. Smith was located and arrested without incident on Sunday by Pasadena City Police.
Smith was charged with rape in the first degree, rape in the second degree and unlawful sexual contact in the second degree, McKeown said.
Smith is currently being held without bail, and he is awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
