  • Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Green of Dover, DE, died peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE, after attaining her goal of spending the Thanksgiving holiday with her grandchildren and their families.  She was 94.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 14, 1918, Grace moved to Dover, Delaware in 1964 when her husband transferred there with Baker’s Chocolate, which later became General Foods.  After raising her family, Grace joined the workforce, working for General Foods as a production line worker.  She enjoyed her time in the workforce and was a proud 15-year retiree of the company.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Grace was a faithful parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Despite never driving or owning a car, Grace volunteered delivering meals for Meals on Wheels for thirteen years with the help of her circle of friends.  She enjoyed reading, going to the movies, playing Bingo and Scrabble, and going for drives.  Grace will be remembered for her sharp wit and precise memory, her amusing astrological explanations, and her love for her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen H. Green, and her youngest son, James J. Green.  Grace leaves to cherish her memory her son, Stephen J. Green, and his wife, Ann Marie, of Bridgewater, MA; her daughter, Kathleen Polly of Dover, DE; her grandchildren Jay J. Green and his wife, Becky, of Hockessin, DE, Michelle R. Nowland and her husband, Jim, of Landenberg, PA, Lynda Jardin, Wayne Green and their families in Massachucetts; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff members of Cadia Capitol in Dover, DE, and the Franciscan Care Center at Brackenville in Hockessin, DE, for the compassion, warmth, and kindness shown to Mrs. Green during her stay in those facilities.
Visitation will be held at 10 am on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 South State Street, Dover, DE, 19901, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
