  • Lady Hornets fall to Fordham, 69-38

  • Marah Strickland led three Fordham players in double figures with 16 points in the Rams’ 69-38 wire-to-wire win over Delaware State at Rose Hill Gym this afternoon.
     
    Fordham improved to 3-0 this season, while the Lady Hornets fell to 0-3.
     
    Tierra Hawkins was the leading scorer for Delaware State with 16 points to tie for game-high honors. Hawkins, averaging 20.3 points per game, has reached double figures in scoring in each of DSU’s three contests this season. She has led DSU in scoring in each game.
     
    N’Kayah Kersey was the only other Delaware State player in double figures with 11 points.
    Keyanna Tate and Kianna D’Oliveira shared team high honors with seven rebounds each.
     
    Fordham led 8-0 before Kersey hit a jumper to get the Lady Hornets on the board with 16:27 left in the first half.
     
    Fordham responded with a 14-0 run, and opened up a 22-2 lead on a lay-up by Erin Rooney with 8:25 left in the first half.
     
    Delaware State trailed 27-9 before a brief spurt.
     
    The Lady Hornets scored seven of the next nine points, and pulled to within 29-16 on a steal and lay-up by Deanna Harmon with 3:02 left in the half.
     
    The Rams led 37-20 at the break.
     
    Fordham led by as many as 31 in the second half.
     
    Delaware State was 15 of 53 from the field (28.3%), including two-of-10 on three-point shots. The Lady Hornets did their best job of protecting the ball this season, committing a season-low 15 turnovers.
     
    Fordham hit 28 of its 62 shots from the floor (45.2%), including 6-of-13 from beyond the arc.
    The Lady Hornets will play their 2012-13 home opener this Wednesday (Nov. 21) against Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
