Two Henlopen North foes, Caesar Rodney and Sussex Tech, faced off Wednesday night for the right to advance to the semifinals of the DIAA Soccer State Tournament.
The Riders fought off a late Ravens push to outlast Tech, 3-2.
CR would strike first, when sophomore Jaki Farlow headed home a goal to make the score 1-0 a little over seven minutes into the contest.
With just 2 minutes left in the first half, the Riders would go up by two. This time, junior midfielder Lott Phinnissee would find the back of the net for CR.
The Riders took a commanding 2-0 lead into the half, but the Ravens would not go quietly.
The 13th seeded Ravens surprised 4th seeded Concord in the opening round of the tournament. And even though they were down 2-0, they clawed their way back.
Freshmen standout Alberto Cruz put the Ravens on the board at the 14:40 mark, to bring Tech within a goal.
About ten minutes later, the Riders would respond.
Chimaobi Ikwuagu tallied the Riders third goal of the game, increasing the CR lead back to two goals.
Though, once again the Ravens would not go down without a fight. With just under 2 minutes to go in the game, senior midfielder Daren Willey scored for Tech to bring them within a goal with only seconds to go.
However, the Ravens comeback would come up short as the Riders were victorious 3-2.
For Tech it's an all too quick ending to a great showing in the tournament.
The Riders will now advance to the semifinals where they'll play the winner of Salesianum/Archmere on Saturday for the right to play for the state championship.
