  • Josephine H. Matthews, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012.
    She was born and resided in Wyoming, DE until 1992 when she and her husband Frank moved to Hpt, VA to be near her daughter. For many years, they owned and operated Frankʼs Market in Wyoming. At St. Stephenʼs Episcopal Church, NN, she sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild, and was a member of the Autumn Club. Jo loved to sing with “The Songbirds”, where she made lasting friends. She resided independently at the Arbors until Dec. 2011 when she moved in with her daughter Mary and son-in-law John Garrett.
    Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank; son Tom, and son-in-law David Cohen. She is survived by her sister, Amanda, of CA; daughter Louise Monahan (Tim); daughter Mary Garrett (John); two granddaughters, Kathryn MacPhail and Kelly Lucas (Dominic); two great granddaughters, Haley and Madison MacPhail, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-grandson Chris Garrett (Christine) and their sons David and Michael, and step-granddaughter JeanGarrett.
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church,10246 Warwick Blvd., NN (Hilton) with a reception to follow.
    The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Dina, Deborah, and Connie, and the Hospice nurses Sherrie and Juanita.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the music ministries of either First United Methodist Church, NN, or St. Stephenʼs Episcopal Church, NN.
