  • Driver in Camden school bus crash dies

  • The 70-year-old driver that crashed into a home on Main Street in Camden Wednesday morning later died at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Camden Police said.

  • The school bus driver that veered off the road and crashed into a porch on Main Street in Camden Wednesday morning has died.
    Camden Police identified the man as Willie H. Warren, 70, of Camden, Camden Police Capt. Gary Melvin said late Wednesday afternoon.
    Warren was driving a The school bus that belonged to Hiltons Bus Service, off Vepco Boulevard in Camden.
    Warrant was en route to the Fred Fifer III Middle School in Camden with approximately 40 children at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday when he crashed into a house at 12 South Main Street in Camden, Melvin said. The bused crossed the southbound lane of South Main Street and sideswiped a utility pole on the west side of the road.
    The bus then continued in a northerly direction for approximately 90 feet where it collided with the house and a tree and came to a rest, he said.. A fireman from the Dover Fire Department witnessed the crash as he was driving southbound on South Main Street. The fireman noticed the driver appeared to be in medical distress, and he
    removed the driver from the bus.
    The Dover fireman determined Warren was in cardiac distress and began CPR. Camden Police and Delaware State Troopers arrived on the scene and assisted with CPR until the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company and Kent County Paramedics arrived.
    Warren was transported to Kent General Hospital in Dover where he later died.
    The cause of death of the driver will be determined by the Delaware Office of the Medical Examiner.
    One student aboard the bus was transported to Kent General Hospital by the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company ambulance. and two other children were taken to the hospital by family members. The injuries to the three students all appear to be minor at this time.
    The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting the Camden Police Department with the investigation and no charges are expected in this case.
