A 27-year-old Frederica man is accused of attacking a Milford couple on Wednesday, moments after they pulled into their driveway on Elizabeth Street.
Justo Melo followed the victim's vehicle to their home in the unit block of Elizabeth Street and parked his vehicle directly behind theirs, according to Milford Police Department spokesman Detective Dwight Young.
Melo then began punching the windows on the victims' vehicle, he said.
When the 27-year-old woman and 25-year old man refused to exit their vehicle, Melo reportedly retrieved a tire iron and used it to shatter the passenger's side window, which caused lacerations on the male victim's face.
When the male victim exited the vehicle, Melo continued his assault by biting the man, Young said.
Melo later fled the area prior to police arriving on the scene.
The male victim was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for cuts and bruises on his face and hands before being released. The female victim did not require medical attention, Young said.
Melo was arrested Thursday, although the circumstances under which he was taken into custody were not immediately made available.
He is charged with assault, aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, criminal trespassing and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
Melo is being held at the Sussex County Correctional Institution on a $29,000 secured bond, Young said.
