Delaware State Police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy at his Dover area home early Tuesday morning.
State trooopers began investigating the death of the boy, who attended W.B. Simpson Elementary School in Wyoming, around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
Fournier declined to comment beyond the fact that state troopers were still in the early throes of their investigation.
Police did not release the boy's name because he is a minor.
Delaware State Police notified the Caesar Rodney School District of the boy's death Thursday morning, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald said in a prepared statement.
"Our hearts are broken for this family and we hurt at the loss of a child so young," Fitzgerald said. "We can only hope the family finds some comfort in the thoughts and prayers of our entire school community."
He said Caesar Rodney activated its crisis plan and representatives from the Delaware Crisis Response Team, school psychologists, counselors and the school nurse were on scene at Simpson Elementary to talk with students and staff.
