A 34-year-old man was killed while riding his motorcycle late Tuesday night along Del. Route 8 in the city of Dover.

Dover Police are investigating a fatal accident on Forrest Avenue at its junction with Bennington Street that left a 34-year-old motorcycle operator dead late Tuesday night.

Police responded to the accident at the intersection of Del. Route 8 and Bennington at 11:19 p.m. Tuesday, Dover Police Lt. Daniel McKeown said Wednesday.

The investigation revealed that the victim was riding a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 750 eastbound on Forrest Avenue when he ran into a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by a 19-year-old male, McKeown said. The Mitsubishi was crossing Forrest Avenue from George Washington Drive southbound to Bennington Street, he said.

The motorcycle operator was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later from apparent head injuries, McKeown said. A helmet was located near the victim, but it has not been determined if it was properly secured at the time of the crash.

The 19-year-old man who drove the Mitsubishi was not injured, police said.

An investigation into the crash continues by Dover Police accident reconstruction unit, McKeown said. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the crash.
