  • The Caesar Rodney Riders defeated Downingtown West on Friday night behind a 2 touchdown performance by running back Devon Horton to improve to 2-0 this season.
The Riders struck twice in the first half behind two rushing touchdowns by Damani Jones and Horton's first of the evening.
Jones scored a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter, while Horton scampered for an 11-yard score mid-way through the second quarter.
The Riders defense showed up big in the first half, making an improtant goal-line stand late in the half to help secure a 14-0 lead going into the break.
Downingtown West would cut the lead to 14-7 in the third quarter, but the CR defense was able to prevent any attempts at a comback.
Horton would score his second touchdown, this one a 5-yard run, to seal the the game for the Riders in the fourth quarter.
The win puts the Riders at 2-0. CR didn't win their second game of the season last year until Week 7, so being 2-0 to start the season is a vast improvement.
The Riders will host a tough Salesianum team next week.
