  • Delaware State University graduate and former Hornet linebacker, Carlos Woods, has been hired as an assistant coach in charge of defensive safeties.
Woods enrolled at DSU in 1999 and played with the Hornets scoring his best season in 2000 when he was eighth on the team with 35 tackles. That season the team went 7-4; its first winning mark in five years.
After earning his master's from Penn State, Woods received a paid internship with the Indianapolis Colts. He served as a defensive assistant, scouting assistant and administrative staffer under head coach Tony Dungy.
After Dungy retired in 2009, Woods was hired by the Cincinnati Bengals where he served under head coach Marvin Lewis. The NFL lockout forced Woods to leave the Bengals in 2011.
The Hornets will kick-off the 2012 season against Virginia Military Institute at 2 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the stadium, 1200 N. Dupont Highway, Dover.
