Candy E. Young will be the first Olympian female to serve as athletics director at Delaware State University.
Young was a high school track star who set a world record in 1980 in the 100 meter hurdler. She earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic 100-meter hurdle team.
She has served the last seven months as DSU's interim senior associate athletics director. Young also served as an assistant men and women’s track coach at California State University, University of Pittsburg, Ohio State University and Seton Hall University from 1992 to 2006.
She will begin her position on Aug. 13.
