Mary Betts died peacefully on June 23, 2012 in Rockville, MD. She struggled for many years with lung disease, but it never prevented her from making humorous remarks, laughing, or expressing love and gratitude to everyone, especially family, who accompanied her during this phase of her life. She delighted in almost everything, from watching the weather to watching birds, preparing meals seasoned with good conversation, reading newspapers, and listening to stories about her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, joy in the simple things, hospitality, gratitude, devotion to family, and service to and love of others.
She enjoyed 48 years of marriage to Fred Betts, who preceded her in death. She is survived by sons, Allan (and Pat) Betts of Springfield, VA, and Kirk (and Debbie) Betts of Bethesda, MD, and daughter Susan (and Mark Fels) Betts of Dover, DE, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
A service of thanksgiving and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 1, 7:00 p.m., at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE, preceded by visitation starting at 5 p.m. Burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Bear, DE, July 2, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Rockville Nursing Home, 303 Adclare Rd., Rockville, MD 20850, or the Montgomery Hospice Foundation at www.montgomeryhospice.org.
