David N. Harris passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was 71.
He died quietly in his favorite chair surrounded by his loving family. Harris was born on Sept. 18, 1940, in Princeton, IL, son of the late Roger and Esther (Nichols). Harris served eight years in the U.S. Air Force as a supply specialist and meteorologist. He eventually settled in Dover, where he completed a 20-year career as a maintenance technician and supervisor with the Delaware River and Bay Authority. After retirement, he owned and operated Dover Lawn and Landscaping until his death.
An avid NASCAR fan and gardener, Harris leaves behind his devoted wife of 49 years, the former Laraine Healy of Perth, Western Australia. He also is survived by two daughters; Angela Lewandowski (Patrick), of Wilmington, and Lori Harris, address unknown; two grandchildren, Salvatore Illiano (Lauren) of Newark and Celsi Illiano of Dover, as well as a brother, Joel Harris of Winterset, Iowa.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave, Wyoming. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.
