A Frederica man was arrested early Monday after crashing a stolen motorcycle on State Route 1 near Lincoln, according to police.

Jonathan S. Hood, 28, reportedly was speeding on southbound on State Route 1 when a state trooper attempted to stop him near Johnson Road.

Hood initially pulled his motorcycle onto the shoulder of the highway, but then sped away from the trooper, police said.

The trooper reportedly turned off his emergency equipment, but continued following the motorcycle as it wove through traffic at a high rate of speed.

Hood eventually lost control of the motorcycle and crashed in the center median, but continued to flee on foot. He was taken into custody in a nearby field, police said.

Police later determined that the motorcycle, which was not identified, had been stolen from an address on North Little Creek Road in Dover on April 6.

Hood, who was not injured in the crash, is charged with receiving stolen property, disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, speeding, reckless driving, aggressive driving and 16 other traffic violations.

He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,500 secured bail, police said.
