Retired Lt. Col. Robert S. Collins of Camden, DE died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Kent General Hospital. He was 89.

Mr. Collins was born August 18, 1922 in Flint, MI, to the late Victor and Beatrice Collins.

 He served in the United States Air Force as a bomber pilot serving his country in WW11 flying B-17s, Korea flying B29s.  He Flew  B-47s, the first nuclear jet bombers, with the Strategic Air Command during the Cold War. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam before retiring in 1970 after 27 years of service. After his retirement from the military he was a manager at WSFS Bank in Prices Corner and Dover. Mr. Collins enjoyed his family, taking long walks with Mommom and their pets.  He enjoyed his grand children and great grand children.  He was an avid photographer and filled many family albums. He videoed every wrestling match his grand- children participated in from kindergarten through college.  He enjoyed reading and listening to books on tape.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 2009 and son, Robert S. Collins II.

He is survived by his sons, Geary W. Collins and his wife Winnie of Dover, DE, and David L. Collins and his wife Emily of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Brian, Hollis, Grace, Stuart and Hanna Collins, Chellie and Marni; great grandchildren, Brianne, Torah, Olivia and Rylie; daughters in law, Jeannie Collins of Middletown, DE, and Judi Collins, Ga.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
