Sen. George Bunting (D-Bethany Beach) will not seek re-election in November.

Sen. George Bunting (D-Bethany Beach) will not seek re-election in November.

The 67-year-old senator said he plans to focus on his family and his business.

"It's a choice I've been pondering for a number of months now," Bunting said. "[My wife has] certainly been my advisor and business
partner. We felt it was just the right time at this point in my life."

Bunting, who was elected to the Senate in 1996, recieved a kidney transplant in 2008, but said it was not a factor in his decision.

"I'm in good health," he said. "It was not over my health, although certainly working over two careers sometimes is stressful
in itself. But I've always enjoyed what I've done and I thank the people in 20th Senatorial District for allowing me the opportunity."

Bunting said he has no plans to endorse a specific candidate as his predicessor.

"I'm not to pick people," he said. "That's not my role. I normally don't get into endorsing people. I'm glad to give some wisdom if that's out
there, but I think it's up to the public to pick whomever they want to serve the 20th Senatorial District."
