For the 20th year in a row, the Dover Post wants to recognize that one special person who’s made a difference in the lives of others. It is up to you, our readers, to decide who that person will be for last year — 2011.

There are a few rules, however:

The Great Person nominee must live in Kent County. We will accept only one nomination per person. Nominations must be no more than 250 words in length. While we appreciate the contribution of our local politicians and clergy, we cannot accept nominations for these persons. Prior winners of the Great Person award are not eligible.

Nomination forms may be mailed to: The Dover Post, attn: Great Person Award, P.O. Box 664, Dover, DE 19903; faxed to 678-8291; brought to 1196 S. Little Creek Road, Dover; or emailed to jesse.chadderdon@doverpost.com. Nomination forms must be received by noon on Friday, Jan. 27.

Ballots with the names of Great Person candidates will be printed in the Wednesday, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 editions, and the Saturday, Feb. 4 edition of the Post. The voting deadline will be noon on Friday, Feb. 10.

The winner will be announced in our Wednesday, Feb. 15, edition and a feature article on that person appear in a subsequent issue of the Dover Post.
