Doris C. Gillis, age 96, of Dover passed surrounded by her four loving daughters on January 19, 2012 after a fulfilling life.


Doris C. Gillis, age 96, of Dover passed surrounded by her four loving daughters on January 19, 2012 after a fulfilling life.

 She was the youngest of ten children. In her early days she was a professional Spanish dancer. During WWII she worked as a secretary in an import/export business and spent her free time giving our servicemen support at the USO.

Doris had dedicated her life to being a loving wife and mother raising five children.

She took an active part in church activities, fundraisers and volunteered her time teaching children basic reading, writing and math skills. She returned to work later in life to support the higher education of her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Anthony Gillis, her son Paul Anthony Gillis and all nine of her siblings.

Doris is survived by her four daughters, Toni Gillis of Dover, DE; Chita Gillis of Santa Fe, NM; Terri Ann Olson of Morris, IL; and Lisa Keating of Darien, IL. She is additionally survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A viewing was held Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 5 until 7p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso , 1175 S. State St. Dover, DE.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 12 noon on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. Dover. A Committal Service will be held January 28, 2012, at the Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband.
