Lonnie Ray Haley of Dover died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at home. 

Ray was born January 26, 1935 in Allen, TX, son of the late Jasper C. Haley and Hester Williams of Allen, TX.

 He is preceded in death by his faithful companion Daisy, four brothers Oliver, Cletus, Melvin and Charles and three sisters Marie Lewis, Etna Thomason and Virginia Moore all from Texas.

He is survived by his wife Frances E. (Hertz) Haley of Dover; his children Larry Ray Haley of FL, Lonna Rae Pipkin of Palmer, TX, Lance Randall Haley of Quitman, TX, Lynn Ryan Haley of Terrell, TX all of  TX, Shawn R. Haley and his mother Lois Haley of Hartly; two sisters Bobbie Fincher of Waxahachie, TX and Norma Fife of Hurst, TX; step children Robin Coventry of Camden, George Coventry of Woodside, John Coventry of Wyoming, Joe Minor-Stinson of Wilmington, David Minor of Hartly and Lance Minor of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Ray loved the sea.  He retired as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy in 1970 where he served as a sonar technician on numerous submarines. Ray was also a retired captain from the Delaware Department of Corrections in Smyrna.  Ray loved fishing and could often be found on his boat in the Delaware Bay.  When not fishing, Ray “Salty Dawg” could be found behind his CB at home talking to his many friends.

A remembrance service will be held at a later date.   The family requests no flowers and memorial contributions be given to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934 or the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, P.O. Box 186, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934.
