The Super Walmart in North Dover just south of the Cheswold town line was evacuated this afternoon after someone called in a bomb threat.
Someone telephoned the bomb threat at about 12:30 p.m., and Walmart officials promptly called police, Delaware State Police Sgt. Paul Shavack said.
“Management made a decision to evacuate the store and a canine unit was brought in as a precaution,” Shavack said.
Some time after 1 p.m., police cleared the store as safe, he said.
“We take these matters seriously and, out of abudance of caution, we evacuated the store," Walmart spokeswoman Ashley Hardie said. "We evacuated the store until police said it was safe to repopen.
"Also, we appreciate the patience of our customers who were inconvenienced by this disruption,” she added.
