Mary Etta Carter of Dover died Sunday December 18, 2011 at Capitol Nursing Home. She was 82.


Mary Etta Carter of Dover died Sunday December 18, 2011 at Capitol Nursing Home. She was 82.

Mrs. Carter was born March 13, 1929 in Cheswold, Delaware to the late Return Carney and Ola E. Beckett Carney.

She worked at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna in the maintenance department and most recently at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover working banquets. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, Cheswold. She enjoyed line dancing and traveling.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Carlton Carter, Sr. and two sons, Carlton Carter, Jr. and Return Carter.

She is survived by son, Anthony Carter of Dover; daughters, Ruth Ridgeway of Dover, Gloria Dewey and her husband Matthew of Dover; brother, Willis Carney and his wife Anita of Dover; sisters, Betty Seeney of Clayton, Shirley Seeney of Dover and Gloria Attix of Dover; six grandchildren, Sherry Wilson, Albert Ridgeway, Jr, Brandy Ridgeway, Carlton Trainor, Tiffany Giroux and Brian Clairmont; six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, 756 Main Street, Cheswold. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
