WHAT IT IS Delaware’s new Secretary of Transportation Shailen Bhatt presented his first budget request to the Office of Management & Budget Monday. The department’s 2013 operating budget request totals $356,589,000 which represents a 0.7 percent increase from last year.
WHAT IT WAS LAST YEAR DelDOT received $353,980,000 from the state last year to fund its operating budget.
TOTAL REQUESTED BUDGET $554,955,000, which includes a capital budget request of $198,366,000.
EXPLANATION Bhatt said the operating budget includes $132.9 million allocated for debt service, $87 million for personnel costs, $79.8 million for transit and $56.9 million for operations. Bhatt said $313,900 will be used for rail service, $257,400 for DMV police security and $432,400 to finance the SWCAP program shortfall.
