The victim, Alan Hufford, 47, of the 100 block of Kentwood Drive was found in the field directly behind his residence at approximately 11 a.m., Dover Police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hufford was stabbed multiple times and his throat was also cut.

An investigation by the detectives led to the identification and arrest of a suspect, Donald L. Lake, 46, of the 200 block Cedar Drive in Lincoln, Del. Both Lake and Hufford were romantically involved with a woman who is a neighbor of the victim.

This relationship resulted in an argument early Sunday morning between Lake and Hufford, which led to a physical altercation in the field directly behind their homes. During the altercation, Lake stabbed Hufford numerous times.

The victim’s body was turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Georgetown, Del. pending an autopsy.

Lake was charged with murder 1st degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and possession of a deadly weapon by person prohibited.

He will be arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #7 and will be held without bail at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.
