First Friday in downtown Dover gives back to "Embellish Your Melon," in support of brain injury survivors and their families. Downtown events include live music, exhibit openings, sales and more.

One highlight is the opening of Maria Bissette's "The Painted Canvas: Floor and Wall" at the Dover Art League, 21 W. Loockerman St., Dover. The exhibit features her floor cloths and canvases. From 6 to 6:30 p.m., Bessette will talk on the theme, "The Painted Canvas: Floor and Wall" and music will be provided by Sandcreek, Lonnie Fields and friends.

Most events run from 5 to 7 p.m. and are free unless otherwise noted.

Events are as follows:

FEDERAL STREET
The Biggs Museum — Biggs Museum Opera. A chamber music concert focused on the Biggs Museum collection will be presented by composer Guillermo Silviera. The performance will occur in 30 minute sets with intermissions to allow visitors to view the inspirational artwork in the Museum galleries. From 5 to 7 p.m. Free, all ages.

LOOCKERMAN STREET
Bel Boutique — “Embellish your Melon” and enjoy 20% off all hats and  hair accessories.
Caribbean Cuisine — All those dishes you loved on your last trip to the Islands and now available in Downtown Dover.
Delaware Made — Featuring Music by young, gifted violinist Marius Sander; First Friday sales.
Dover Art League — Featuring Artist Maria Bessette with her floor cloths and canvases. From 6 to 6:30 p.m., Bessette will talk on the theme, "The Painted Canvas: Floor and Wall." Music will be provided by Sandcreek, Lonnie Fields and Friends.
Dover News Stand — Music by indie rock's The Well Known Drags.
Forney's
Forney's Too — Hosting the organization It‘s All Good in Delaware. Tickets for the organization's upcoming fundraiser at Jonathan's Landing Sept. 24 will be sold along with ITG Tervis Tumblers to benefit Kids Kamp, a summer camp for children with cancer; and enjoy our sidewalk sale.
