A crash just after midnight this morning, May 24, south of Dover has claimed the life of a Smyrna woman. Both the woman and her passenger, a Camden man, were thrown from the vehicle.
A crash just after midnight this morning, May 24, has claimed the life of a Smyrna woman. The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the single vehicle crash which happened at about 12:05 a.m., on South State Street south of Manor Drive, just south of Dover.
Police said Courtney J. Holtzman, 26, of Smyrna, was driving a 1997 Nissan Sentra south on South State Street when she veered across the northbound lane and off the east edge of South State Street.
The car struck several trees before overturning onto its roof. Holtzman and her right front passenger, Ronny R. McCoy, 30, of Camden, were both thrown from the vehicle.
Holtzman died. State Police have not received information as to whether she died at the crash scene or at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
McCoy was taken to Kent General where he was treated for injuries and admitted for unspecified injuries.
Holtzman and McCoy weren't wearing seatbelts, police said.
The accident is still under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information about this crash to call investigators at 302-697-4491 ext. 216.
