The Irish Society of DelMarVa is seeking applicants for its 2011 Thomas Winnberg scholarship, a $400 bookstore credit for textbooks.


The Irish Society of DelMarVa is seeking applicants for its 2011 Thomas Winnberg scholarship, a $400 bookstore credit for textbooks. This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in Kent and Sussex counties who are going on to post-secondary education. The award will be based on academic performance, extra curricular and community involvement and an essay discussing the applicant’s academic goals.

Applications are available at high school guidance offices or may be requested directly from ISOD. Requests for applications may be sent to JPL61@verizon.net with “ISOD scholarship” in the subject line or to ISOD Scholarship, 323 Columbia Ave., Dover DE 19904. All requests must include the applicant’s name, US postal address, phone number and high school name. Applications will be sent to requesting students via mail.

Completed applications must be received by no later than May 14. Copies of all data submitted by the front-running applicant will be forwarded to his or her guidance counselor for review and certification.

The Winnberg scholarship is offered annually. Founded in 1990 by Tom Winnberg, ISOD is a social group with interests in Irish/Celtic culture, history and music.
