State police arrested a Dover man Feb. 24 and charged him with stealing metal storm grates from eight different housing developments in the area.

Bruce A. Logan, 28, is accused of stealing some 30 storm grates and stands charged with 17 offenses, including burglary theft, trespassing, criminal mischief and conspiracy.

According to police, the thefts occurred mostly in developments still under construction where the streets are unfinished. Investigators say the suspects removed the 200-pound storm grates and sold them to scrap metal businesses for cash, netting roughly $2,300 over a six-week period.

Police said the thefts took place between Jan. 5 and Feb. 17 at the following developments and businesses:

Weatherstone Crossing, Felton

Oldfield Village, Magnolia,

Harmony Hill, Dover

Lynnwood Village, Felton

Waters Edge, Frederica

Village of Nobles Pond, Dover

Zober Construction, Dover

Chown’s Fabrication, Dover

Logan was linked to the thefts after he was stopped on at least two occasions and found to have large quantities of assorted scrap metal in the back of his pick-up truck, police said.

After arraignment, Logan was released on an $8,700 unsecured bond.
