Milford police arrested Milford High School Athletics Director Glen E. Stevenson on Feb. 19, after he found a lost wallet containing $840 at Walmart and left the store with it, according to an arrest report.

The report, filed by officer Theresa Bloodsworth of the Milford Police Department, states Stevenson picked up a wallet that another Walmart customer had left on the store’s pharmacy counter. The owner went back to the counter after realizing what had happened, but the wallet was already gone and hadn’t been returned to any store official.

Police went over security footage of the pharmacy and saw Stevenson, the report states.

“[Stevenson] touched the wallet several times, as seen on video, before grabbing the wallet and tossing it into his shopping cart,” Bloodsworth said in her report. “The suspect went to an empty isle … of the beauty department and began rifling thru the wallet ... [He] exited the store and entered a dark green truck in the parking lot and left, never returning the wallet to the counter or to customer service at Wal-Mart.”

Police discovered Sevenson’s identity through the store’s pharmacy records and called him. According to the report, Stevenson volunteered that he’d found the wallet.

“He stated that he had picked up a purse and asked if that is what this was about,” Bloodsworth said.

Bloodsworth said Stevenson took the wallet to the Milford Police Department, where the victim confirmed that no money had been taken, but said that the cash in the wallet had been “moved around from its original location,” and asked the police to go ahead with prosecution.

Stevenson was issued a no-contact order with the victim, who has not been named by police, and charged with a single count of the theft of lost or mislaid property. He was released on $500 unsecured bond and awaits a hearing at Justice of the Peace Court 6.
