Four wrestlers from Caesar Rodney High School and one from Polytech High School earned titles in the Henlopen Conference Championships Feb. 18 and 19 at Smyrna High School.


Less than a week after the Caesar Rodney High School wrestling team earned a title at the DIAA Dual Wrestling State Championship, the Riders claimed a Henlopen Conference Championship Feb. 18 and 19 at Smyrna High School.

The Riders finished well ahead of the field with 268.5 points, while also earning four individual titles from freshman Micah Hight, 112 pounds, junior Kaleb LeMaire, 119 pounds, junior Stephen Jackson, 135 pounds, and senior Issah Meade, 160 pounds.

In addition to those local wrestlers, senior Artis Thorne of Polytech High School won the 189-pound weight class.

All five wrestlers earned No. 1 seeds at this weekends DIAA Individual Wrestling State Championships, set for Feb. 25 and 26 at St. Mark's High School.

Other top finishers from the area included: Zach Howell, 103, and Pierce DeMarreau, 171, both of Caesar Rodney, Tyere Joyner, 140, Dover, and Jimmy Watts, 119, Polytech, all second place; and Trey Mitchell, 125, and Rodmy Leo, 285, both of Caesar Rodney, and Brandon Flamer, 215, Polytech, all third place.
