The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition held its 8th annual Southern Lights of Life: An Event of Living and Giving event on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Dover Downs Hotel and Conference Center. Members of the community support the event each year though donations, volunteering, sponsorships and attendance in an effort to come together and take action to defeat breast cancer. All funds from the evening benefited DBCC in Kent and Sussex counties.

The night featured wine, dinner, live and silent auctions, a fashion show, and live entertainment provided by Shirley Alston Reeves. Reeves is the former lead singer of The Shirelles. In 2010, Southern Lights of Live and the help of 664 attendees enabled DBCC to raise $179,000. Such funds were used to expand programs in Kent and Sussex counties through breast cancer awareness, importance of early detection, access to mammograms and to provide support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
