The Dover Days Festival Committee is seeking new artisans and crafters for its 78th annual Dover Days Festival set for the first full weekend in May 2011. Crafts, food, information and home & trade show exhibitor day is set for Saturday, May 7, and will be held on Legislative Mall, Dover.

According to festival organizers, last year’s event drew between 22,200 and 25,000 attendees, and vendor space was sold out two weeks prior to the event. This year’s committee has plans to expand exhibitor space to allow for greater participation opportunities in 2011.

“The event highlights a wide variety of locally- and regionally-made crafts including jewelry, wearable art, pottery, wood products, paintings, photographs and prints, food products and children’s items," said Linda Kurtz, chair of the event. “We are also working on a special opportunity for home and trade show exhibitors due to popular demand.”

Colonial artisans, such as tinsmiths, wool spinners or wood workers, who demonstrate their craft are invited free of charge. Antiques vendors are invited to apply for the Sunday, May 8, antiques show and sale.

“Home, garden and trade exhibitors have asked us to set up a special exhibition area just for their products because they want to be able to tap into the Dover area’s largest event with their home-related products and services,” Kurtz said.

Dover Days will continue its focus on First State history, maypole dancing, live entertainment stages, a parade and pet parade along with a special kids zone and activities, Kurtz said.

The Dover Days Committee has agreed to keep craft vendors’ fees at the same rate as in previous years due to a slow economy. In addition, free parking is provided nearby.

Proceeds from the event help to underwrite the cost of producing the non-profit Dover Days Festival, with no admission charge in 78 years.
