A Frederica man is in custody on drugs and weapons charges related to a three-month marijuana investigation conducted by state police.

At around 9 p.m. Nov. 29, police stopped a 1985 GMC Sierra truck driven by Steven O’Neal, 18, on Route 13 south of Lebanon Road in Camden, according to Master Cpl. Bruce Harris.

The state police Kent County Drug Unit had active warrants for O’Neal for allegedly selling quantities of marijuana over a three-month period of time, Harris said.

When troopers searched O’Neal at the traffic stop they allegedly found 98 grams of marijuana on his person. Police also executed a search warrant at O’Neal’s residence and seized drug paraphernalia, a loaded Mauser semi-automatic 6.35 caliber handgun and rounds of ammunition, Harris said.

O’Neal was charged with delivery of marijuana, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited and other associated crimes.

He was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $21,000 secured bond.
