Lionel P. Butler Jr., 10, of Magnolia, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010.

Born Jan. 14, 2000, in Dover, Lionel, or “Diddy” or “PJ” was the son of Tanya Lynn Edwards Butler and the late Lionel P. Butler Jr.

He was a student at Star Hill Elementary School and was loved by his teachers and the students.

Lionel loved basketball and football and wanted one day to be in the NBA. He loved playing video games, his favorite basketball team was the Miami Heat and he loved riding bikes with his brother.

He played basketball on the CYO team at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

In addition to his father, who died Jan. 18, 2002, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Edwards on April 21, 1998.

Lionel is survived by his mother, Tanya Butler and her husband, Lionel’s stepfather, Antwan Seney of Magnolia; a maternal grandmother, Darlene Edwards of Magnolia; a paternal grandmother, Betty Young and her husband John of Dover; a paternal grandfather, Lionel P. Butler Sr. of Denton, Md.; two brothers, Shaquille Thomas and Timothy Butler; two sisters, Ty’J Houchens and Natanya Johnson; a godmother, Eileen Holzhauser; an aunt, Tina Fuller; four uncles, Woodrow Edwards, Jan Edwards, Edward Tripp and William Edwards; a very special person who he though of as his other father, Michael Johnson; and a host of special cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Lionel’s memory to Starr Hill Elementary School, 594 Voshell Mill-Star Hill Road, Dover, DE 19901.
