Charlene “Sam” Holmes, 68, of Dover, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

Born May 4, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Holmes was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Evans.

She worked at the Dinner Bell Inn, the Gold Key Restaurant, managed the Dover Elks Lodge and most recently the Holmes Insurance Agency. She also served on the board of directors for the Kent County SPCA and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Cossin Boggs.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her husband of 20 years, Albert “Bill” Holmes of Dover; her mother, Margaret Evans of Wooster, Ohio; a daughter, Lonna Luhrman and her husband Edwin of Dover; a son, William Lemmon of Akron, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Douglas Priester, Shawn Priester and his wife Jessica, Hayden Luhrman, Heather and Ashley Halverson, and William, Dakota, ArieAnna, Melanie and Ashley Lemmon; a brother, Ronnie Evans and his wife Jorja of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Tina Fowler and her husband Chris of Wooster, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Holmes’ name to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
