Caesar Rodney High School
The No. 5 Caesar Rodney High football team lost in the first round of the state tournament last week, ending its season against No. 4 Salesianum, 34-7, Nov. 19. The lone score for the Riders came from quarterback Seth McFall, who rushed for a 1-yard touchdown.
The No. 5 Caesar Rodney High girls volleyball team’s season finally came to an end last week when it lost in the state semifinals to No. 1 Ursuline, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15), Nov. 15. Layla Shanehsaz had a solid match for the Riders, picking up 11 kills, four blocks and 12 digs. She was supported by Madelaine Voshell, three kills, one ace and 16 digs; Carla Williams, two kills and 11 digs; Talia Pina, six kills and four blocks; Kaitlin Fox, 23 assists; and Molly Deckoff, 12 digs. The Riders’ closed the year with a consolation match on Nov. 17 against No. 6 Wilmington Friends, losing, 2-0 (25-17, 25-11).
Lake Forest High School
The No. 3 Lake Forest High football team fell just short of advancing beyond the first round of the state tournament last week when it lost to No. 6 Archmere, 21-20, Nov. 19. The three scores on the evening for the Spartans came from quarterback Josh Webb on a 2-yard run, and running backs Shymer Hanzer on a kick return and Quadir Bryant from 4 yards out.
