Animal control officers charged a Hartly man with multiple animal cruelty charges after searching his property last month.

On Oct. 7 officers assisted by the Delaware State Police, Department of Agriculture and Kent County Code Enforcement executed a search and seizure warrant at the home of Thomas J. Clough, in the 1700 block of Bryants Corner Road.

According to a report from Delaware Animal Care and Control, officers found multiple animals living in deplorable conditions as well as animals that were in poor body condition, including three horses, one goat, one calf and three potbelly pigs.

Two adult horses were removed and are currently under treatment by a veterinarian. Other animals that remained on the property have been seen by a veterinarian and have had recommendations made to improve their care and living conditions, the report said.

Clough, 42, is charged with six counts of cruelty to animals as well as other animal licensing violations.
