State police arrested a Magnolia man Oct. 25 and charged him with six counts of child rape going back two years.

State police and staff from the Dover Child Advocacy Center interviewed the victim, who described how he was physically abused and forced to engage in sexual acts, according to Master Cpl. Bruce Harris.

The victim told detectives that on one occasion Balgobin was angry with him and struck him repeatedly on his arms with a hammer, then strangled him to unconsciousness.

The victim also alleged that Balgobin regularly disciplined him by striking him with the buckle of a belt. During their investigation, police located numerous scars on the victim believed to have been inflicted by Balgobin.

Balgobin’s full list of charges includes six counts of first-degree rape; two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual contact; two counts of second-degree assault; and one count of first-degree reckless endangering

Balgobin was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $360,000 secured bond.
