Pearl Hastings Ake, 92, of Dover and most recently of Harrison House in Georgetown, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010.

Born March 27, 1918, in Gumboro, Mrs. Ake was the daughter of the late Lester F. Hastings and Bessie Hearn Hastings.

She graduated from Millsboro High School in 1936 and from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. Following graduation, she worked in both general and private duty nursing, and was a school nurse for the Capitol School district for 35 years, retiring in 1980.

Mrs. Ake was a member of the Delaware State Nurses Association, Delaware State Education Association and School Health Advisory Council. She also was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for 50 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Walter Ake; a brother, Glenn L. Hastings; and two sisters, Elizabeth H. Murray and Marian H. Smith.

Mrs. Ake is survived by two nieces, Barbara H. Rogers and her husband Kenneth of Georgetown, and Maureen M. Daisy and her husband Ray of Chincoteague, Va.; and three nephews, Glenn L. Hastings of Dover, Bruce Hastings and his wife Margaret of Denton, Md., and Michael G. Murray of Salisbury, Md.
