Beginning Friday, Oct. 22, work will be done on the intersection of Route 13 and Division Street/Route 8 around the clock through Monday, Oct. 25. It will continue during evenings in the following weeks.

The Delaware Department of Transportation iis advising motorists that work begins Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. on U.S. Route 13 in the area near East Loockerman Street and Route 8/Division Street. The construction will provide intersection improvements, median upgrades and paving of the deteriorated road surface.

Crews will work around the clock from 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22 until 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25.  Work during the week of Oct. 25 to Friday, Oct. 29 will be performed during nighttime and overnight hours, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Workers will follow the same weekend schedule from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31.  Crews will also be on site during nighttime and overnight hours from Monday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 7.

The project includes the reconstruction of the left turn lane and median to westbound Route 8/Division Street from northbound U.S. 13. The portion of U.S. 13 between West Loockerman Street and Route 8/Division Street will be milled and repaved and striped. The curb at the southeast corner of US 13 and Route 8/Division Street will be replaced as well.

Other aspects of the project include work in the median of U.S. 13 north of the Route 8/Division Street intersection. During the paving portion, entrances to businesses along the northbound lane will be blocked off temporarily, however the impact to business is expected to be minimal due to the time of day.

Motorists should be aware of delays when driving through the intersection, and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control.
