Helen "Nellie" M. Baker, 92, of Dover, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010.


Friends may call on the family of Helen “Nellie” M. Baker, 92, of Dover, at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. A remembrance service will follow at noon and interment will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover.

Mrs. Baker died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.

Born November 15, 1917, in Elkton, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Mentcer and Ardella Biddle Mentcer.

Mrs. Baker was a homemaker, but had held several jobs in her earlier years and had worked at Richardson and Robbins Co.; volunteered at Kent General Hospital for more than 20 years; and worked at the Golden Eagle Shop of the Modern Maturity Center and Silver Lake Nursing Home.

She was active in the Capital City Church of Christ and enjoyed her church family members immensely.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin B. Baker Sr. in 1986; a son, Marion G. Baker; a daughter, Millicent Margo Baker; and one brother and five sisters.

She is survived by a two daughters, Bonita Baggett of Wilmington and Barbara Hurley of Dover; a son and his wife, Edwin B. Jr. and Nancy Baker of Dover; a brother, Robert E. Mentzer of Beavercreek, Ohio; and five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Capital City Church of Christ, 86 W. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901.
