Walter E. Richardson, 93, of Dover, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, in Cape May, N.J.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Richardson was the son of the late Warren Richardson and Marie Richardson.
He was a resident of Haddonfield, N.J., for many years before moving to Dover in 1988. He spent his formative years in West Cape May, N.J., and graduated from Cape May High School in 1935.
Mr. Richardson furthered his education and Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, where he received a degree in engineering. He later received a degree in education from Glassboro State Teacher’s College, now Rowan University, in Glassboro, N.J. The culmination of his education was achieving his Doctorate degree in physics.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Richardson worked for many years and retired from the Pennsylvania-Reading Railroad, and later retired from his second career working as a teacher/professor in the Camden and Gloucester County areas in New Jersey.
He was a member of the Lodge Council Chapter Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Southern New Jersey, the National Education Association and the Cape May County Retired Teachers Association.
Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Norma F. Richardson. He also was preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by his niece and her husband, Ruth and John Leo of Cape May; and his companion, Virginia Morrow of Cape May.
