Friends may call on the family of Violette G. Sterner, 82, of Dover, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21. Internment will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Dover.
Mrs. Sterner died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
Born in Bethlehem, Pa., on Jan. 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Lena Gerencher.
Mrs. Sterner was mostly a homemaker, but had several jobs before moving to Dover in 1968. She was a member of the Dover Century Club where she was former secretary and treasurer.
She was a member of the Club 55 Bowling League, and had won many bowling medals and awards, including some in the Senior Olympics.
Mrs. Sterner is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles “Chuck” Sterner; two sons, Charles H. Sterner Jr. and his wife Theresa of Felton, and Dan Sterner and his wife Robin Hartnett-Sterner of Felton; and two daughters, Barbara Angermeier and her husband Bernie of Felton, and Nancy Apa and her husband Vince of Frederic.
She also is survived by a brother, Geza Gerncher of Bethlehem, Pa.; a sister, Helen Baba of Hellertown, Pa.; and two granddaughters, Danielle M. Angermeier of Midlothian, Va., and Erin Dotson and her husband Eric of Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 611 Forest St., Dover, DE 19904.
