Delaware State Police have arrested a Milford man after a 19-year-old woman was punched unconscious over the weekend.

Delaware State Police have arrested a Milford man after he allegedly punched a woman in the face, leaving her unconscious.

The assault took place at 2 a.m. Sept. 25, at Campground 10 near the Dover International Speedway, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton.

The campground is adjacent to Persimmon Tree Lane.

The incident started when a group of four men confronted two women in the campground, Newton said. An argument began after the men made comments to the women statements implying sexual acts, and escalated when the suspect, identified as Martin Fowler, 19, of Milford, allegedly punched the 19-year-old victim. The woman immediately collapsed to the ground, after which all four men ran away.

Newton said a 30-year-old camper saw the altercation and chased after Fowler, but Fowler allegedly assaulted him, breaking the Good Samaritan’s nose.

Troopers were able to identify Fowler and took him into custody at his Milford home on Sept. 26, Newton said.

The female victim was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, immediately after the assault where it was learned she had bleeding on the brain. She was airlifted to Christiana Hospital, Newark, where she is listed in critical condition.

Fowler was charged with single counts of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, and then jailed at the Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna after failing to post a $25,250 secured bond.
