Schools wanting to sign up for Delaware's annual spelling bee need to do so by Friday, Oct. 15.

Delaware’s annual fourth- to eighth-grade spelling bee is set for Saturday, March 5, according to organizer Anne Marie Eanes, chair of the English Department at St. Mark’s High School, Wilmington.

Elementary schools from across the state must register at the Scripps National Bee website at by Friday, October 15, for the special $99 rate if they wish to send champion spellers to Delaware’s 2011 State Spelling Bee.

Registering for the Scripps National Bee automatically registers schools for the Delaware bee at St. Mark’s High School. It is open to all schools across the state, including public, private and home schools.

The Scripps organization again will sponsor the trip for Delaware’s top speller to the national Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May.
