Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Division of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement Agents conducted an administrative inspection July 23 at CJ’s Bar & Grille located on West Commerce Street in Smyrna. DATE had received several recent complaints about this establishment regarding the service of alcoholic beverages to underage persons, as well as the illegal transport and storage of alcoholic beverages on the premises.

According to a press release from the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the inspection uncovered that CJ’s Bar & Grille, which is licensed to only operate as a restaurant, contained a large amount of alcoholic beverages on the premises but had no food available to prepare. All of the alcoholic beverages were also found to have been purchased from other retailers in violation of Title 4 of the Delaware Code.

All alcohol was seized and multiple violations against the liquor license were forwarded to the Office of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner for disposition.

Violations include illegal purchase of alcohol, illegal alcohol on premises, failing to operate as a restaurant, alteration of approved floor plan and alteration of approved menu.

The owner, John F. Neri Jr., lives in Pennsylvania and was not present at the time of the seizure.

This is the second time in a two-month period that this establishment has been cited for multiple violations of Title 4.
