Charles Richard "Pete" Gourley, 76, of Dover, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010.
Friends of the late Charles Richard “Pete” Gourley, 76, of Dover, may call on the family beginning at noon Sunday, March 28, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where services will be held at 2 p.m.
Mr. Gourley died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Born Friday, Feb. 16, 1934, in Dover, he was the son of the late Elwood C. Gourley and Mary David Gourley.
Mr. Gourley served his country proudly as a member of the missile division of the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He later worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co., retiring after 35 years.
He was a hard working, loving man who liked to work in his yard and garden. He always shared his vegetables with his family and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Kish Gourley, in August 1973; a devoted companion of 10 years, Cora Reed; a sister, Marianna Gourley Luff; and two brothers-in-law, Walker Luff and George “Teddy” Burd.
Mr. Gourley leaves many wonderful memories to his sons, Dennis Dale Gourley and his devoted companion, Mindy Burd of Magnolia and Charles Crusson Gourley of Chadds Ford, Pa.; his two granddaughters, Autumn Marie Gourley of Magnolia and Donna Yoder Purcell of Hartly; his stepson, Christopher White of Dover; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley Gourley Burd and Margaret Gourley Clough and Watson Clough of Dover; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends and neighbors.
Interment will be Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.
