Samuel C. Holmes, 82, of Dover, died Sunday, March 21, 2010.

Friends of the late Samuel C. Holmes, 82, of Dover, may call on the family beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 236 N. Queen St., Dover, where services will be held at 11 a.m.

Mr. Holmes died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

Born Dec. 15, 1927, in Elmer, N.J., he was the son of the late Rev. Lucian A. Holmes and Bessie Braxton Holmes.

Mr. Holmes was a retired self-employed drywall technician.

He was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee and choir member.

Mr. Holmes’ memory will be cherished by two sons and their wives, Larry and Karen Holmes of Tampa, Fla., and Allen and Dee Holmes of Apex, N.C.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Larry Robinson of Roanoke Rapids.

He also is survived by a brother, the Rev. Clifton V. Holmes of Dover; a sister, Cecelia Glenn of Dover; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, in-laws, and friends.

Interment will be in the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Salem, N.J.
