A Harrington man is in jail after he allegedly tried to flee from police on a stolen dirt bike.

A Harrington man was jailed March 23 after he allegedly tried to flee from police on a stolen dirt bike.

Edwin A. Todd Jr., 19, of the 1200 block of Dorman Street, was allegedly riding the dirt bike on Clark Street, said Harrington Police Department spokesman Sgt. Earl K. Brode. When officers tried to stop Todd, he drove off and managed to elude officers until being spotted again; while traveling on Messicks Road, the bike crashed into a ditch and Todd ran off, Brode said.

He was found hiding in some bushes near the scene and taken into custody.
Officers also found 10 grams of marijuana during a search of Todd’s person, Brode said, adding a computer check showed Todd was wanted out of the Kent County Court of Common Pleas for failing to appear on a DUI charge.

Todd was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, trespassing, disregarding a police officer and several traffic offenses, Brode said.

Todd was jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of a $5,756 secured bond.
