A Frederica man has died almost one year after being seriously injured in an accident.
Michael Danatzko, 39, of Frederica, died Feb. 22 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, said Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh.
Danatzko was hurt in the accident on Feb. 25, 2009, Whitmarsh said.
According to police reports at the time, Danatzko was the driver of a 2001 VW Jetta traveling southbound on Route 1 near Middletown. Danatzko’s vehicle was struck by a flatbed truck whose driver apparently lost control and veered into the southbound lane, hitting the Jetta and another truck.
The driver of the flatbed was identified as Daniel Mullins of Wilmington.
No charges were filed at the time of the accident, Whitmarsh said.
Investigators with the police Collision Reconstruction Unit were advised of Danatzko’s passing, and told the death was directly attributable to the injuries he suffered in February 2009, Whitmarsh said.
The state medical examiner has ruled Danatzko’s death accidental, said ME spokesman Carl Kanefsky.
Police are continuing their probe into the accident.
“Charges may be pending and will be determined in the weeks to come with this latest event and a review by the attorney general’s office,” Whitmarsh said.
